Insuring the Future Conference
The Connecticut Insurance Department (CID) and Connecticut Insurance & Financial Services (CT IFS) have announced the third annual ‘Insuring the Future’ summit, scheduled for October 29, 2026, at the Hartford Marriott Downtown. This year’s theme, ‘Rewriting Risk in an Era of Uncertainty,’ will focus on how the insurance industry is responding to emerging challenges such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, affordability pressures, and evolving health trends. Summer of Soccer Initiative
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, Hartford has launched the ‘Summer of Soccer’ initiative. Positioned between two host cities—Boston and New York City—Hartford is seizing the opportunity to celebrate its diverse community and rich soccer culture. The city plans to host local watch parties and events, inviting fans to engage in the global excitement surrounding the tournament.
The Amistad Visits Hartford
In September, the replica of the historic ship Amistad docked at Hartford’s Riverfront Recapture’s Mortensen Riverfront Plaza for a month-long series of community events and educational programs. This visit commemorated the 1839 trial at Connecticut’s Old State House of 53 natives from Sierra Leone who were kidnapped and illegally sold into slavery. The Amistad’s presence served as a powerful reminder of history and a symbol of the ongoing fight against oppression and injustice.
Connecticut Forum on Global Affairs
The Connecticut Forum hosted a discussion titled ‘Global Affairs,’ featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning author Anne Applebaum and Admiral James Stavridis. The event provided an overview of global risks, opportunities, and insights, addressing challenges such as national security, trade, energy, environmental issues, immigration, and human rights. This forum underscored Hartford’s engagement with international issues and its commitment to fostering informed dialogue within the community.
Through these initiatives, Hartford continues to demonstrate its dedication to global engagement, connecting local residents with international events and fostering a community that is both informed and inclusive.
